Destroy You, New Bedford



Destroy You began in 2005 at the Orchard Street Art Gallery located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. In 2008 Destroy You, Boston was hosted by gallery Space242.

Now in 2012, we are proud to announce Destroy You New Bedford, a collection of life work made by artists MCA and Ryan Maguire, will be on exhibit at UGLY

Lucky for us he did. Unknown to him, he captured what is one of the very very few photographs (if not the only) of the legendary Fleabaines. Also lucky for us the bartender at the Mexican restaurant where Tony was going over his images has been following our ever growing posts on Fleabaines & pointed him straight out up in the trees. Here is the image that we were given permission to post:

Here is what he told us of Fleabaines:



"I was studying ocean tides in the mountains near Anchorage, Alaska when my gaze turned towards a low-flying rainbow. I followed this odd rainbow until I realized I was walking on it! I became increasingly slippery and I slid all the way down and then waaaaay up to the top of a mountain where I then saw a creature at both ends of the rainbow laughing manically! This is all I remember how he looked before I passed out."







On a side note, Space Jockey also records & performs music as MASTERTRACK.

Evoker, but this one is different... At first read it didn't make sense at all, coud this really be Fleabaines!?  Below is what we recieved:



"I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a cold, rainy afternoon in Narragansett, Rhode Island. I remember seeing the end of a rainbow, which I thought was impossible, but have heard over the years it's where leprechauns hide their gold. As I approached the smell, which can only be describe as a fish farting, it hit me in the face so hard it almost knocked me on my back. It was so foul that my eyes began to water and I could barely see. When I finally got my vision back, I was staring face to face with the one of the scariest things I have ever seen, Fleabaines, the Magical Mountain Man."



If any of you have been following Fleabaines, you may also agree with us - This does not sound like him, it can't be him...  After some research & a few phone calls we realized that this sighting was must more rare than we could imagine. We believe what was seen Evoker was not Fleabaines at all, but in fact Bainefleas! A Bainefleas sighting has not been recording since June 6, 1932. The trouble he can cause can't be measured. Hopefully this is the first & last sighting for a long time...

Tadpole & his son seemed to have had a sighting in the Long Woods, as they called it,

which we believe may be a frog's jump or two away from the beach of the horse's neck.

The most interesting thing about this email we recieved are the images attached. It was always thought that Fleabaines as seen through the eyes of a child was much different than that of all others & I think these two drawings are further proof of this.

We have been getting word that Fleabaines may be out & about, but we really couldn't believe it. Then this morning we opened our email to find a bit of proof. An email from 'A.A.' tells the tale of a slight encounter in New England along with a drawing of the event.



" I was on an adventure & I was collecting bird feathers in my backpack. Then my backpack flew into the the woods so I went to go find it. When I walked into the woods I peaked behind a tree & then I saw Fleabaines. He was practicing his magic & he was standing in a dirt circle. Where he was standing it had really green grass in the circle. There were no trees in the circle. He saw me & turned into a deer and ran fast away. "



This was quite an amazing way to start out our Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011.

As you know 8/7/2011 = 19, which equals 1, which makes perfect sense.

In calculating dates into meanings, some use just 8/7/11, which in fact equals out to:

17,  which in turn = 8 or ∞

This backs up our theory even more...

We can only hope this is just the start of these 'Sightings'

Saw OFF! at the Middle East on Monday night, good time old style punk rock show.. Missed Cerebral Ballzy, which kinda sucked, but saw Trash Talk - crazy insane to say the least, first time seeing them - hectic fun, yes... & great to see Keith Morris back on attack.!

About The Filmmaker:

Daniel Zana is a director and editor from North Hollywood, CA. After graduating from Cal State University Northridge, he worked on music videos for such acts as Against Me, Death Cab For Cutie, Seppy Sol, The Willowz, and Tahiti 80. The Vinyl Frontier is his first feature length film and he now calls New York City his home.



About the film's production:

I started the film about 4 years ago with the desire to document an incredible art movement that I was just starting to get into myself. As I began collecting these toys, i wanted to know more about the process, the artists, the works inspiring the toys, the collectors, etc. So I set out and contacted as many interviewees as I could find to get a more accurate view about the vinyl toy world. The result is a feature length documentary film (my first) that features over 35 artists, collectors, scholars, and toy makers who shed some light on the fascinating and somewhat new mode of expression.



Longer Synopsis:

At the dawn of the 21st century, renegade toy designers, bored with the G.I. Joe status quo, boldly remixed and reassembled the toys of their parent's generation. Birthing a new format of toy and medium of artistic expression, these artists were the first to explore The Vinyl Frontier. A world where Art is Fun!



By exploring a landscape inhabited by a wide range of artists, their creations, and obsessive collectors, the documentary examines the hybrid objects' artistic and commercial value, as well as the creative process of art-toy making. The Vinyl Frontier is a comprehensive look at a fresh and exciting art movement that anyone young at heart and imaginative can enjoy.

Whether you're a punk, skater, graffiti artist, musician,

clothing brand, political activist, fine artist, or just a fan of a

band, stickers have always been the perfect way to express

oneself.



Starting in 1966 with Andy Warhol's Banana sticker for the

Velvet Underground "STICKERS" chronicles the

development of the art form as it spans cultural and

artistic genres of the last half-century. It documents

the evolution of stickers from early Californian skate culture, the punk rock pioneers,

early hip hop, techno/rave culture, graffiti, controversial politics,

right up to contemporary street & fine art.

A large section focuses on non traditional sticker mediums, such as wheatpastes,

tiles, mirror or anything else an artist chooses to work with that utilizes adhesive materials.

MF Gallery is excited to present our newest show: "I Need Your Skull".

In this show, over 30 international artists were asked to present a piece depicting a human skull...

All the money raised from sales of the skull art will be used to build a giant skull on the facade of the MF Gallery building.



Skulls have long been used in art as symbols of mortality, religion, eternal life, rebellion, fear, poison and more. The skulls in "I Need Your Skull" are realized in a variety of different styles and mediums. Photo realistic skulls, gruesome skulls, cartoon skulls, psychedelic skulls, dark skulls and colorful skulls. From morbid to cute, 3D or flat, these skulls are made in a variety of materials from marble to paper; and were created by a group of diverse artists, some who use skulls as the subject matter for their normalwork, and some who were asked to create a skull piece just for this show.



The artists include: Jennybird Alcantara, Annie Aube, Nicoz Balboa, Dave Brockie, Candy, Fernando Carpaneda, Gene Coffey, Matt Dickson, Dennis Dread, Kirsten Flaherty, Christina Graf, Guicho, Death Head, Scott Holloway, Lance Laurie, Abe Lincoln Jr., Mike Maas, Drew Maillard, Sarah Antoinette Martin, Angie Mason, Dennis McNett, Rodrigo Melo, MCA, Munk 1, Gilbert Oh, Chris Peters, Porkchop, Riot Queer, Ed Repka, Lou Rusconi, Frank Russo, John Russo, Martina Secondo Russo, Chad Savage, Anna Semenova, Joe Simko, James Wrona, Genevive Zacconi & More...



Our dream for the new MF Gallery in Brooklyn (A.K.A. The "Fortress MF") has always been to adorn the facade with a 20 foot 3-D skull. Made of fiberglass or a similar material, it will be reminiscent of an old Spook House ride, and would make The Fortress MF an unmissable Brooklyn Landmark! This is a big project that has been in the planning stages for a long time, but one that we have not yet been able to realize due to time and monetary constraints.



"I Need Your Skull" will help to make MF Gallery's Giant Skull Project a reality! All of the proceeds from this show will go towards building the giant skull. As a part of this show, we will be revealing concept sketches for the construction of the "Fortress MF Skull" for the very first time!



Please join us for a rock n roll Opening Party on Saturday May 22, from 7 to 10 pm. Many of the artists will be present, and refreshments will be served. Admission is free and open to all ages. The art in "I Need Your Skull" will be on view until June 20, 2010 and will also available for viewing and purchasing online at: www.MFgallery.net. We here at Evil Design have teamed up with Formula Werks & have two designs that are part of the Build Your Own line. We figure we might as well start with a couple Ape designs.. why not!





The 'Mean Ol' Evil Ape' is available in Mens & Womens Tees & Hoodys.

The 'Mighty Ape Paw of Metal' is available in Mens & Womens Tees.



You can choose your own shirt/sweatshirt color as well as design colors.

Pretty good concept.
